Macally is becoming one of those companies that make generally handy products.   Last year I reviewed the MacAlly Pad stand which holds your iPad safe and secure upside down, ready for mounting in the kitchen or anywhere else it could be just “handy”.  You can see my shaking test to show you just how well it grips on the review page.

MacAlly Audio 3 Reviewed : Macally Audio3 3 Way Headphone Splitter

The Audio3 from Macally is well, pretty much what the product says, a 3 way headphone splitter that works with iPad, iPhone or indeed any audio player with a 3.5mm audio jack. Before you start thinking “well that seems pointless” actually it’s not.

Back onto the Audio3, From the top of my head here’s a few usage ideas.

  • Keeping kids quiets with a movie in the back of your car.  No longer do you have to drive whilst listening to kids films
  • Sharing your favourite music with friends but not annoying the general populace of the beach (yes, speaking from experience here)
  • Maybe you’re a student with neighbours with noise aversions yet you want to hold a small student style rave (do students still rave?)
  • Bring back that silent disco craze
  • Now groups of teenage girls can use their own headphones when sharing music instead of just having one ear bud each

Press shots from on Macally’s site make the Audio 3 look larger than it actually is.   Width wise is comparable to the standard iPhone docking connector and lengthwise about double the size again.  Weighing literally nothing it’s not going to be pulling and tugging on your headphones so the only thing you have to watch out for is if one of your friends has shorter headphone cables then others in the group.

Things might be compact in the headphone socket area but not so much that you can’t use different types of headphones. In this picture I’ve used my Sony, Apple and Denon headphones all at the same time.  There’s no headphone control available so there’s not fighting over volume or what’s playing.  You’re at the mercy of whoever has the playing device in their hands

That’s the basics and pretty much everything covered. After all what else is there really to say about a three-way headphones splitter?  If green isn’t your colour of choice you’re unfortunately out of luck as that’s the only color available.
