Essential Apple Podcast 136: A Pragmatic Approach to a Lack of News (Part Two)

This edition, Part Two of the show recorded with John Chidgey of Bubblesort and The Engineered Network (home of Pragmatic, Analytical, and more) and in this part we talk about a variety of technology topics including Windows 7 EOL, Graphene, Google autodeleting info on you, Facebook suing some Koreans and more.. The power of “post” has allowed me to make it sound like this was how it was intended; but I can promise you that isn’t how it happened at all!

Essential Apple Podcast 122: Sometimes bad news is all there is

This week Simon had trouble with iCloud, Facebook and Google had trouble with Apple, and Apple had trouble with FaceTime. Serious criminals are tapping into the phone system backbone to attack banks, governments continue to try and get into everyones chats, and the Internet of Things may be an even worse security threat than you ever imagined. Meanwhile guest Guy Serle of the MyMac podcast has problems of his own with some shelves, Apple’s “awful terrible no good very bad quarter” might be down on estimates but is still the second biggest quarter they ever had… but over all bad news is all there is.

Essential Apple Podcast 121: Happy Birthday Macintosh & SE/30 – TheMacMommy

This week it was 35 years since Steve pulled the Macintosh out of the bag to say hello, also it is 30 years since the launch of the SE/30. The latest iOS Beta holds clues about new iPads and even a possible new iPod Touch! Apple reassigned 200+ staff from the Titan project elsewhere (notice I said “reassigned” not laid off…). Apple got some flack about a photo competition and promptly did the right thing about it, while Zuckerberg continues to be a lying two-faced hypocrite (in Simon’s opinion). To discuss all of that, and whatever else comes to mind during the conversation, I am joined by Nick Riley (@spligosh) and Melissa Davis (@TheMacMommy / TheMacMommy.com)

Essential Apple Podcast 106: Teething toubles & falling down

Sorry it’s late – life and work kind of intervened… Also sorry about last week – neither Donny or I were feeling up to scratch so we decided that if we both felt ill it was best to just abandon it. Meanwhile the stories kept piling up – an awful lot of it “security and privacy’ related to be honest.
DONT FORGET THE JOE KISSELL OFFER… 30% any Take Control purchase before November 30th with this link 30% Off or use the code ESSENTIALAPPLE at checkout.

Essential Apple Podcast 93: Summertime Blues

The Essentially Interrupted Edition

For a change, I thought I would have a panel of guests and do a “round table” show. Everyone I asked seemed to be busy – England World Cup Game, Canadian Public Holidays, summertime family outings, vacations in the wilds – I thought I was going to be without any guests at all (hence the show title). Despite my initial fears however, I have garnered guests galore. I am pleased to welcome back Steve Hammond (@Stevehammond), Donny Yankellow (@rtteachr) and Nick Riley (@Spligosh) to help me delve into the multitude of stories that broke this week.

Essential Apple Podcast 80: And Bob’s your uncle!

Mark is otherwise engaged this week, so Simon is joined by Bob Wood, My Mac reviewer and Tucson MUG member to talk over some of the week’s Apple and Tech stories including Apple’s Field Trip event announcement, the GrayKey iPhone unlocking tool, the Facebook data breach and the fact that cyber criminals don’t always keep their word!
Sorry my side of the audio is not great again, I unwittingly messed up my noisegate setting and as a result I am a bit hissy and clipped – Simon.

Essential Apple Podcast 76: In Conversation with Jeff Gamet of TMO

This week saw another deadly school shooting in the US and whilst we don’t want to dwell on that event we felt it appropriate to just mention our horror and sorrow at another senseless tragedy.
Meanwhile we are joined by the esteemed Jeff Gamet, Managing Editor at The Mac Observer and co-host of the Apple Context Machine Podcast to talk about the HomePod, “white-ring gate”, Twitter killing its Mac client and more.
