Essential Apple Podcast Bonus: Photo organisation app Mylio, with David Vaskevitch

Simon talks to David Vaskevitch (ex Microsolft CTO and CEO of photo app Mylio) – the audio has the whole of the recording, the video starts when David wants to share his screen (yeah I wasn’t totally on the ball with that but there you are). You can find the video on YouTube

A new study estimates that people will snap upwards of 1.4 trillion photos in 2021. And with record numbers of people embarking on summer travel right now, the need for a reliable photo organization tool is more important than ever.

Visionary software architect, former Microsoft chief technical officer, and current CEO of the photo app Mylio, David Vaskevitch, would love to talk with you about the best option for storing and organizing all of those photos, so that you have access to them all the time, on all your devices, in a private and safe way. David can address:

  • How to store your photos in low-cost a way where you keep ownership of them and in total privacy
  • How technology can help you to organize all your photos so you can retrieve them easily. Methods include tagging, organizing the photos by year taken, or placing them on a digital map of the globe so you can retrieve them by location.
  • How you can have all your photos (and David means ALL your photos – over your lifetime) available to you on all your devices, at any time, even without internet connection
  • Why you should strongly consider taking your photos off the cloud, and how to do so efficiently.

If accessibility, privacy and control over your photos and videos is important to you, Mylio is the perfect solution. Learn how Mylio makes it easy to organize, manage, and protect your visual life story the right way. You can try out Mylio for free, just download the app.

Essential Apple Podcast 232: Talking with Andy J

Simon’s Mac is still in “dry dock” having failed a second time exactly as before – apparently it shipped out from the Apple Repair Centre earlier today as we record, so forgive us once again if the sound isn’t as slick as we like to hope we are ;D… Anyway this week Simon and Nick are joined by slack member @dougee (Andy J) our resident computer forensics specialist and unofficial security guru. [Sorry the show is late this week but I’ve had some personal life stuff going on that took up a fair bit of time – Simon]

Essential Apple Podcast 231: Think of the children

Nick and Simon get together once again to consider Apple’s “child safety initiative” which has blown up a huge debate this week, scratch their heads over what Microsoft’s 365 Cloud PCs actually offer and general wander around the stories that caught their eye over the last week or so.
Sorry there are no chapter markers this week, the morning after we recorded I opened up the M1 MBA to do the edit and it was black screen and unresponsive (again)… It’s back off to Apple once more (sad face).

Essential Apple Podcast 229: It’s a dead Mac! :(

Yes, so we didn’t record last week… sort of because it was hot and sticky (at least by UK standards), and we didn’t feel like any stories really caught our interest… and well, we just weren’t really feeling it I guess. Since then however quite a lot has happened (including Simon’s shiny new M1 just being dead on Thursday morning…). But you can’t keep a good podcast down for long – so here we are again – back in the saddle and ready to regale you with the stories of the last week or so… (Sorry if the sound is a bit different to usual, had to use a rather basic setup).

Essential Apple Podcast 228: Jim wraps a parcel and other tales

Simon is joined once again by Nick, Jim (who appears to be demolishing his living room in the background) and Steve (who barely gets a word in) and they talk about a host of weird and wonderful stories – including why setting up an iPad isn’t as simple as it could be, an ancient ‘Easter Egg’, resurrecting 35 year old files from the dead, the Audacity furore and more…

Essential Apple Podcast 224: Post WWDC Ruminations

However Simon and Mark get together to discuss what they made of the WWDC event and cogitate on the bits that interested or disappointed them.
