Blogo for iOS first look
There can be no doubt about it that when it comes to the world of blogging there was only really one platform which dominates the ball, WordPress. So it has always puzzled me why the haven’t been many high-calibre apps for both the iPhone and iPad to use.
Several have come and gone.
Blogsy (iPad) – A great app but development has ceased as of 26th January 2016. See their blog post Blogsy no longer in the app store for a tale of it’s sad demise.
BlogPad Pro – Free with an interface that looks all to similar to Blogsy.
Posts – This was my favourite until once again development stopped with the app no longer available.
Poster – Again another independent purchased by WordPress and then development stopping shortly thereafter.
WordPress for iOS is the obvious choice but that’s really only been around for a year or so which has grown in terms of features suffers from a crippling bug when used with a bluetooth keyboard.
So entering the arena is Blogo, you might have heard of Blogo’s Desktop version, featured worldwide by Apple as Best New App picks earlier last year. The same team behind the desktop version have now bought the familiar interface onto the iOS platform and this is my first look at the beta version.
Disclaimer, I am an active member of the beta testing group and this is a first look at the beta version. Features will no doubt change before final release.
Blogo supports not one but three blogging platforms, WordPress, Blogger and Medium. Not all of the features are implemented for each platform yet with the beta clearly focussing on WordPress basics before dealing with the still up in the air API’s of Medium.
Blogo Article Management
Any blog you’ve added is accessed via a drop down at the top and a tap of the split windows brings up your article list. The window hanging around is a nice graphical touch, not leaving you guessing what way to swipe to go back to your work.
Above the keyboard are three shortcut buttons.
..that this will be a feature in the next coming beta build. Those who value their SCO rankings are going to appreciate this feature
Continuing along with a neat touch lines both icons along the bottom of the same thing of letting you save, update, or post your article there is a nice graphical flourish of being out of press and hold on the tick to bring up the same menu. Hopefully this will be tweaked in a future update to be a little bit faster than it is right now but think of it as a safety measure so that an incomplete as call isn’t accidentally posted. Not like that has ever happened to me.
.
There are the standard post settings you would expect from a bogging application you can schedule posts, correct your own custom slug, schedule them and set the featured image so it’s all fairly pretty standard fare right now.
In in the latest update one feature has finally arrived that I’ve been hankering for sine the release of the Mac version. The ability to add a No follow to a link
