Essential Apple Podcast 232: Talking with Andy J

Simon’s Mac is still in “dry dock” having failed a second time exactly as before – apparently it shipped out from the Apple Repair Centre earlier today as we record, so forgive us once again if the sound isn’t as slick as we like to hope we are ;D… Anyway this week Simon and Nick are joined by slack member @dougee (Andy J) our resident computer forensics specialist and unofficial security guru. Essential Apple Podcast 231: Think of the children

Nick and Simon get together once again to consider Apple’s “child safety initiative” which has blown up a huge debate this week, scratch their heads over what Microsoft’s 365 Cloud PCs actually offer and general wander around the stories that caught their eye over the last week or so.
Sorry there are no chapter markers this week, the morning after we recorded I opened up the M1 MBA to do the edit and it was black screen and unresponsive (again)… It’s back off to Apple once more (sad face).

Yes, so we didn’t record last week… sort of because it was hot and sticky (at least by UK standards), and we didn’t feel like any stories really caught our interest… and well, we just weren’t really feeling it I guess. This week was a bit of a grab bag of stories: Nick Jim and Simon talk about everything from Chinese engineers upgrading an M1 Mac, to Intel shooting itself in the foot with an ad (again), Epic claiming Apple locks in users with iMessage, while Apple objecst to a water bottle company logo trademark filing. Lot’s of going ons with people terrified that Apple’s ATT is going to destroy their “surveillance capitalism” business models while Apple tell them attempts to circumvent ATT will not be tolerated. Meanwhile we find out about trees that can bleed metal and a really creepy webcam.
