Netflix is starting to enforce its location based content more heavily, especially if you like in the Land Down under. Australian users blocked from US service.

Hot on the heels from last weeks podcast where we discussed using Blockless to get around content Geo restrictions, Netflix are upping their game considerably.

There are some varying reports claiming that the streaming giant has put protective measures in place locking out content not available to those in Australia even if you use a VPN.

Some users of unblocking app uFlix are being served with the following message when they attempt to log onto Netflix US:

“You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again.”

uFlix managing director Peter Dujan told the Sydney Morning Herald that he does not believe the VPN crackdown is widespread, as Netflix is merely testing blocking methods for the time being.

“We suspect that they are blocking known IP ranges and gaining additional information from the user’s browser or mobile device and comparing it to the proxy and user IP addresses,”

he said.

Blockless have released a press statement saying they’ve managed to workaround the netflix workaround already. Although some countries are getting heavier blocks than normal.

If you use a proxy of VPN service we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

There are some really handy reasons why you might want to set Netflix free. If you are on holiday and watching a season you might want to catch up. If you are lucky then that program is available. If so you still have to remember what season, episode and potential playing point you are at in the show.

Now if you can login to your account and reach that content from where you are, that’s a pretty nice thing.
