Starz has decided to go over the top and it has landed on iOS and Apple TV. The second most popular premium channel in the US, behind HBO but ahead of Showtime, is now available to subscribers for $8.99 a month, no cable television subscription required.
That price gets subscribers access to such original content as Ash v. Evil Dead and Outlander, as well as movies from Startz and its sibling channels Starz Encore and Movieplex. Starz CEO Chris Albrecht was quoted in a press release as saying,
“Starz has entered the market today with an enormous value proposition for consumers. Our programing will now be more widely available to the 20 million broadband only homes of cord nevers, cord cutters and cord shavers, including Millennials and other underserved consumers who need other viable subscription service options.”
Starz launches with support for the universal Siri search. No word on whether the service itself will be made available for Apple’s third-gen hockey puck.
