Irish government dropping BlackBerry, buying iPads

The recommended iPad model will be the 32GB iPad with Wi-Fi and cellular, which costs €739 on the Apple Store.  Senators have been advised they should no longer purchase a BlackBerry device if they wish to access Oireachtas email.  – Blackberry are due to release BB10 in 2013 and this will come as another blow to them (siliconrepublic.com)

Leaked References To Microsoft Office Mobile for iPhone and iPad Removed

Everyone’s been quick to jump on to this rumor but not so keen on doing a bit of follow up. The web was ablaze with articles posting about support tags over on the French microsoft support site which included References to ‘Office Mobile for iPhone’, ‘Excel for iPad’ and ‘PowerPoint for iPad’ These have all now been removed.  So was it a leak or a genuine mistake and why the french support site?

USA iPhone 5 Available In 1 – 2 days, UK 1 – 2 weeks

Folks in the USA are now able to order and receive their iPhone purchases within a 1 – 2 day period.  Meanwhile here in the UK shipping times are still 1 – 2 weeks at the time of writing.  There’s no word why the UK is still behind on shipping times when high street stores now have stock.

Apple’s Maps manager, Richard Williamson Gets Shown The Road

In one of Bloombergs many articles “from anonymous sources” Apple have allegedly fired Richard Williamson, the man in charge of Apple maps by new head honcho Eddy Cue. First Scott and then Williamson there seems to be a shake up going up on mammoth proportions. We can only hope it’s for the best of intentions for Apple consumers and not some back room politicking.

Different release times of films and TV shows boost global piracy

A couple of months ago, I purchased the first season of the TV series Homeland from the iTunes Store. I paid $32 for 12 episodes that all landed seamlessly in my iPad. I gulped them in a few days and was left in a state of withdrawal. Then, on 30 September, when season 2 started over, I would have had no alternative but to download free but illegal torrent files. Seems the Guardian are on the same wavelength us me on this one……
