It seems that nothing will be without Bluetooth connectivity soon, not even toothbrushes if Oral-B have anything to do with it. Their Oral-B Smart Series electric toothbrush has intergrated bluetooth and, you guessed it, an app.
The world’s first available interactive electric toothbrush, the Bluetooth 4.0 enabled Oral-B Smart Series, will be available in the UK on a May 2014 release date.
The Bluetooth Oral-B Smart Series electric toothbrush was unveiled in February at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress 2014.
Users of the Oral-B Smart Series and Oral B app will receive brushing data from the app. They will be able to customise and personalise their brush, including setting target session length and selecting preferred modes.
The idea behind the Oral-B app is that it can help keep users motivated and informed while brushing with oral care tips, and even News and Weather information.
Dentists can also program their brushing routines in the app to help improve patients’ brushing behaviours and focus on problem zones within their mouth.
The smart toothbrush features a smart app and intelligent Bluetooth 4.0 enabled handle, as well as boasting six customisable cleaning modes.
Oral-B claims that pre-tests of the app have shown that when connected, brushing time increases from less than 60 seconds with a manual toothbrush, to two minutes and 16 seconds with the electric toothbrush, surpassing the dental professional-recommended two-minute per session.
“Not only can the Oral-B Smart Series remove twice as much plaque as a manual brush but the innovative new Bluetooth technology can help combat bad brushing habits. So, even though you can’t have a dentist in your bathroom every day, this app can help establish and maintain the ‘good’ habits your dentist recommends,” said Dr Uchenna Okoye, Oral-B Smile Director.
The new Oral-B Smart Series electric toothbrush will be available on a limited release in May with general release scheduled for June 2014. The Oral-B app will be available in iOS in May and in Android in August.
