While one might have expected new processors all around for Apple’s laptops, the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air are still slogging along with the same processors they had the day before yesterday. That said, there was an update to the Air line.

Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air began shipping with 8GB of RAM standard today and that could signal the beginning of the end for the Air.

Without a processor bump, the end of the road may be near for the MacBook Air. What was once Apple’s best-selling laptop has been usurped in portability by the MacBook and still has no Retina display, putting it in a somewhat awkward position in Apple’s Mac lineup.

That maybe. Then, again, base price for a 13-inch MacBook Air is $999, base price for a 12-inch MacBook is $1,299. The bigger screen for less money even if it’s not the sharper screen may hit a sweet spot for enough users to keep the Air flying.

So the next question to ask is whats going to become of the Macbook (one)?
