Silverwind iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak Is Fake

Missed the window to upgrade to iOS 6.1.2 which was still jailbreak friendly? A quick google for a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.4 brought up a site called Silverwind or silv3rwind so I decided to research this to see if it’s a legitimate Jailbreak for an iPhone 5

My daily iPhone has been stuck on iOS6 as I kept missing the oppertunity to upgradet to the latest version. The last iOS version able to be jailbroke was 6.1.2 but with the signing window now closed my only choices are to wait for iOS7 or loose the jailbreak and upgrade to 6.1.4.

Not familiar with what a signing window is? It’s apples way of authenticating the installation. When you upgrade the phone dials out to apple to check its a valid install. If the install hasn’t been tinkered with and is still valid you can upgrade easily. If you leave things too late you miss the window signing opportunity for any old version, leaving you with the only option to use the latest version.

Granted that’s a pretty ham fisted explanation so in a nutshell you have a limited window to install an older iOS version.

Googling for an iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 Jailbreak

Googling for iOS 6.1.4 iPhone 5 jailbreak brought up all the usual sources such as evasion, snowbreeze and other groups that are KNOWN and respected in the JB community. Pretty much all are agreed there’s no point in a 6.1.4 jailbreak as that would reveal the exploit method, leading to it being patched in iOS 7.

After drilling down a few links I came across Silverwind (http://silv3rwind.com/) who claim to have a working jailbreak for iOS 6.1.4 on all devices.

If it looks to good to be true…

It is. There wasn’t much in the way of searching needed to find out if silverwind was a legit jailbreak.

Download links for the Mac version point to a .ZIP file. That’s fine some might think but most reputable sites tend to use RAR. Granted thats a VERY tenuious reason to think it’s fake but read on.
