by Apple today has released the fifth iteration of each of the OSes in their current beta cycle to developers, including iOS 9.3, OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan, watchOS 2.2, and tvOS 9.2. iOS 9.3 and OS X 10.11.4 beta 5 have also been released to their respective public betas.
The new builds come just eight days after beta 4. Since we’re now five iterations into a minor update, there’s not a lot that’s new. These later builds are more about refinement.
iOS 9.3
iOS 9.3 contains quite a few features for a minor update, including Night Shift, which cuts down on blue light to help users sleep, password protection for Notes, Wi-Fi calling for Verizon users, Apple Music in Carplay, and new 3D Touch shortcuts.
While beta 4 fixed the infamous 1970 date bug, beta 5 adds back the Apple Pencil functionality which was removed in previous betas.
OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan
OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan focuses on bug fixes and stability improvements, but it also does have a few new features, mostly that parallel iOS 9.3. Features include password protection in Notes, Live Photo support in Messages, and the ability to import notes in the Notes app.
This build is expected to fix an issue with opening Twitter URL links in Safari.
watchOS 2.2
With the original beta, watchOS 2.2 added support for multiple Apple Watches to be paired with a single iPhone. With the second beta, Apple delivered an all new Maps app.
There are no new features in this build, only bug fixes and stability improvements.
tvOS 9.2
tvOS 9.2 brings lots of new features to the fourth generation Apple TV. Users can now group apps in iOS-style folders, pair a Bluetooth keyboard, view Live Photos, use iCloud Photo Library, and use Siri to search the App Store.
Speaking of Siri, tvOS 9.2 also adds Siri support for French Canadian (in Canada only) and US Spanish (in US only). This build only includes bug fixes and stability improvements.
Xcode 7.3
As with all new builds in an Apple beta cycle, a new Xcode beta is released alongside of it. This mainly is to support the new platforms and contains some new APIs.
