EA Origin Gaming Platform Comes To Mac In An Alpha Version

Origin is Electronic Arts platform to enable PC users to download games to their systems. Today EA has announced Mac owners will be able to get in on the action in the form of an Alpha version of the Origin client. Don’t go rushing to the Origin website just yet tho.

To start with the Alpha is only being opened up to a “a few thousand” users in North America and Europe. You can get the client from the Origin web store’s demos page.

Also worth noting this is an Alpha and just in case you didn’t know those come before beta’s and can often come with their fair share of bugs. For those who get in on the action will be gifted with a free copy of PopCap’s word-forming puzzle game Bookworm in the My Games library. Even better news is that you can heel this after the final release

EA remarked that it hopes the existence of an Origin client for Mac will serve as a motivation for more of the company’s games to appear on the platform. That being the case, which ones would you like to see that aren’t already announced?

Welcome to the Origin for Mac alpha.
Thank you for agreeing to alpha-test Origin for Mac. Your input will help shape the best possible experience for future users.

Before downloading the alpha version, make sure you are on a Mac that has OS X 10.6.8 or newer with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Please note that the Origin Store tab is not yet live during this Alpha trial, but it will be live when we formally release the client. The service is currently in development, so functionality will be limited.

The mac sure is gaining some traction as a gaming system alongside home / office productivity. Steam has been around for a while now and with a competitor launching finally, we could see those AAA title’s heading to our Mac in a more timely fashion

Video Of Ashton Kutcher Playing Steve Jobs In ‘jOBS’ Biopic

Everyone who’s following the jOBS biopic knows Ashton Kutcher will be playing the late, great Steve Jobs but there’s more than a few people nervous if Kutcher has the acting chops to pull of the iconic figure. In a clip courtesy of EntertainmentWeekly, he’s seen having a heated debate with Josh Gad, who plays Steve Wozniak in the jOBS movie, and although it’s only a short snippet, it gives a general idea as to how both actors represent their respective characters.

Apple just reported the most profitable year of any company ever

Apple today posted its earnings for the final quarter of 2012, which was “disappointingly” the largest corporate earnings year in human history by a tidy margin, causing many investors to panic as Apple clearly circles the drain in what will be the first step in a short road to the demise of the most valuable company in the world (If Exxon hasn’t indeed surpassed it tomorrow morning).

Apple’s 13.1B in earnings this quarter was the 4th largest of all time according to the same metric.

Apple Confirms New Apple Store For Leeds

Sometimes news can come from an unlikely source, this time from the Apple Retail job positions advertised on their website. It’s most likely to be situated within Leeds Trinity shopping centre, set to open on 21st March. Wonder who the queues will be for, the mall opening or to get to the Apple store? Now imagine if Apple were to release a new product in March those lines are going to be huge.

As Hackulous Shuts Down Is Apple Winning The Pirating War?

Hackulous was responsible for the Installous App which was by far and away the best solution to find and install apps from various repositories.

The news also comes at a time where iOS 6 still proves to be a tough nut to crack jailbreak wise.

Perhaps the master stroke here by apple was releasing their own top tier software at prices previously unheard of. Slashing the price of apps such as Final Cut Pro and iLife / Pages suites removed the tried and trusted excuse of “I’d buy it if I could afford it”.

So many wonderful apps come in at less than a price of coffee is there really a need to spend time packing and hacking IPA files?

To quote Hackulous.

Goodnight, sweet prince.

We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town. It has become difficult to keep them online and well-moderated, despite the devotion of our staff. We’re incredibly thankful for the support we’ve had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence.

With lots of love,
Hackulous Team

Looking for an alternative to Installous. It seems that AppCake and App vv could possibly be some alternatives BUT PLEASE if you like an App, pay for it. Support the developers else we’ll all end up like Android 😀

BBC News : Why Android is Hardwork And Why Apps Come To iPhone First.

“Believe it or not, we started work on the iPlayer radio app for Android on the same day as the one for the iPhone, but we’re still resolving a number of issues. Background audio, for example. When you leave the app you want the Today programme to keep on running. That worked out of the box on Apple, but not on Android, and we’re just getting there now.
